• AICTE has now decided to conduct CMAT twice a year in CMAT 2013 and CMAT 2014.
• The notification is issued to announce the schedule for conducting first Test of Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) for admission for academic year 2013-14.
• The students will be eligible to appear in both the exam and best of the two scores will be used for admission for 2013-14.

The students will be eligible to appear in both the exam and best of the two scores will be used for admission for
2013-14.

The Common Management Aptitude Test (CMAT), which offers aspirants an opportunity to gain access to over 3000 AICTE-approved B-schools in India, would be conducted twice a year now.

AICTE Chairman Dr. SS Mantha told that “CMAT would be conducted twice a year in order to bring more convenience to the MBA aspirants.”

AICTE had launched its very own MBA entrance exam, CMAT or the Common Management Aptitude Test in the year 2011, which was conducted in early 2012. According to Dr. Mantha, the twice-a-year formula will be implemented from this year itself with the second test to be organized in the month of September/ October.

“We will have two CMAT tests in a year. This will help aspirants do save their academic year in case they miss one of the CMAT test,” Dr. Mantha said, adding, “This year, we will be holding the second test around September/ October for the academic year 2013-14. The next test will be held again around January/ February. We will also increase the number of centers to reach more aspirants, besides conducting it overseas, which will be more of a facilitating mechanism.”

The official announcement for first CMAT was made on Sunday, December 4, 2011. The computer based test was held in a window of nine days, from Monday, February 20, 2012 to Tuesday, February 28, 2012. According to AICTE, the exam saw a registration of 70, 000 candidates and was taken by about 60, 000 candidates.

Aptech was the agency which conducted the computer based CMAT. There was no technical glitch reported during the conduct of the test. However, on Saturday, June 30, 2012, AICTE has invited reputed technology companies to bid for conducting the next computer based CMAT.

Apart from CMAT, Management Aptitude Test (MAT) conducted by AIMA is held four times a year. While the first CMAT, which will be conducted around September/ October would see the scores to be accepted by the top rung B-schools, the second CMAT of the year to be held and around January/February will have the next rung of B-schools accepting the scores.

Though the scores of CMAT exam was meant for every AICTE approved B-School to be accepted, but many top rung B-schools of the country refused to accept the first CMAT scores for admissions for the academic year 2012-14. However, around 3, 000 B-schools across the country accepted CMAT 2012.

Dr. Mantha says, “From the academic year 2013-14, we will be in constant dialogue with MBA institutions on adopting the CMAT as the only test for admissions. It is sub judice for about 300 PGDM institutions.”

While it has been clarified by Dr. Mantha that CMAT will be held twice a year from the academic year 2013-14, but the matter of being the single MBA entrance exam for all the AICTE approved B-schools is a matter which is yet to be decided by the Supreme Court of India. “The matter of a single test for management admissions in the country, as of now, is sub judice. The matter is pending in Supreme Court,” said Dr. Mantha. source mbauniverse.
