What to Expect from CET 2014
Expected CET 2014 paper pattern
CET 2014 paper
CET 2014 paper analysis
CET 2014 Expected Cutoffs
OMS cutoff 99.99%ile
With CET, CMAT, CAT, XAT, GMAT, MAT, ATMA in place.. getting into JBIMS 18 OMS (Outside Maharashtra Students) seats will be really difficult. If DTE is following the pattern of 2012 all exams will have equal weight age ie CET Rank 2 is better than CMAT Rank 3 and CAT Rank 4. So with 6 exams in place and only 18 seats up for grab.. challenge will be tough..
CET 5 students will get 99.99, CMAT 6, CAT 30, XAT 5, ATMA 3, MAT 4. Apart from CAT and XAT every other topper will be targeting only JBIMS.
I was OMS candidate and thought twice of applying to JBIMS with only 18 seats but still went for it.. Your target is one seat not 18. why worry who take rest of the 17 seats.. Have you ever scored 75% marks in Xth, XIIth or Graduation. If yes you have to repeat same.. ie get 75% marks in exam like CET (150/200) and you are into JBIMS…
CMAT is good alternative but I have seen many students who scores 5, 7 or 15 marks only in GK.. So better focus on CET as its easy exam. Each stick (question) is easy to break but together 200 sticks is too difficult to manage. Plus Home University students can also apply for OMS seats so competition will increase further.
With 2 lacs fees JBIMS can easily be compared with most of the IIMs and likes of XLRI and FMS. Most of the IIMs have almost 450 seats trust me getting good job to all 450 is huge task but with only 120 seats at JBIMS getting a job is no problem.
So dont worry go for it !!
All the best

DNA today published two main news in this article..
1. GDPI not happening
2. CMAT not required for Maharashtra admission
However, Its not clear as of its officially announced by DTE (MBA governing body).. So please dont take newspaper words by heart. I have to know the details through my sources but no clarity on GDPI happening or not.. according to the last notification from DTE published in newspapers they are taking CMAT scores.
1. GDPI not happening
GDPI happening or not will not hamper your chances that much as anyways 200 marks is written test and just 40 marks in GDPI ie only 16.67% weight-age for GDPI… while in SNAP 50% weight-age for GDPI. So dont expect any major impact on your chances for top colleges. Bad gdpi might decide if u going to JBIMS or Sydenham but wont decide if you going to JBIMS or MET… But one thing is there that cutoffs will shoot up if no GDPI happening.
2. CMAT not taken for admission
Again loads of speculations going on around CMAT scores taken or not… But things will become clear only when DTE final notification will come out by Jan end (delayed little bit). But 80% of the syllabus is common between CMAT and CET so student should not worry about exams. Right now focus on Quant Verbal and Logic… Difference in CET and CMAT is mainly mock strategies and GK that we can manage as we go along. Maybe this article is talking about DTE not taking CMAT scores for Maharashtra students. According to the last notification by DTE they are taking CMAT scores for OMS students which can change so status will be clear only by Jan end…. Moreover, incase CMAT is not taken by DTE it will be taken by PGDM courses like KJ Somaiya and Welingkar which most of the students will apply. So ur efforts will not go waste.
Detailed DNA Article:
Scores in MAH-CET and not CMAT will be taken into account for entry.
The Maharashtra government is contemplating to abolish group discussion (GD) and personal interview (PI) rounds for admission into B-schools in the state this year. In that case, admissions will be based on scores in MAH-CET or in any other national test.
Reason: too many seats and too few candidates.
By November end, a proposal in this regard had been submitted to the Higher and Technical Education Ministry by the directorate of technical education. The proposal also states that candidates who secured ‘zero’ in the test will not be admitted. “Though the ministry is yet to approve the proposal officially, ‘in-principle’, it has been agreed upon,” said a Mantralaya official.
Confirming the news, SK Mahajan, director of technical education, told dna, “The ministry’s approval is awaited but I don’t see any reason why it should be rejected.”
This year, most IIMs scrapped GD for admission to post-graduate programmes. They replaced it with another written test.
In 2013-14, Maharashtra admitted candidates on the basis of scores in national-level test CMAT, without GD/PI, which was introduced abolishing the state-level admission test. The vacancy in B-schools has increased from 25% to 39% after the introduction of CMAT, prompting the state to restart its own Common Entrance Test (CET)from 2014-15.
GD and PI had been a major part for the admission till 2012-13. While written exam’s (CET) weightage was 200, 40 marks for GD/PI ((17 each for GD and PI), and four and two for work experience and academic records, respectively).
A professor of Sydenham Institute of Management condemned the proposal. “This will further deteriorate the quality of management education. Some minimum communication skills are must, if you want to get a degree,” said the professor.
A professor of Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies welcomed the move, “This would completely eliminate human intervention. Some aggressive candidates always ended up dominating the discussion, leaving no scope to test the analytical skills of others.”
He added, “Admission in IITs is based on the written test only. Hence, I fail to understand the need for GD/ PI for B-schools. Moreover, no one has any statistics to show the difference in the scores of written test and GD/PI.”
But MBA aspirants seem to be a happy bunch. “With only written test, I am confident that I will get into a good B-school. My stress is now reduced by 75%,” said a 22-year-old woman aspirant.
MAH-CET exam in March, but students clueless
The MAH-CET’s online exam is slated for March 15-16 and students are inquiring with the directorate about the details of the exam. But the directorate has failed to answer as it waits for the approval from the ministry. Interestingly, the file had travelled to Nagpur during the winter session of the state assembly. “Minister Rajesh Tope didn’t get time to sign it,” said an official.

The Directorate of Technical Education DTE, Maharashtra might be planning to conduct Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MBA MH-CET 2014) for admission in MBA colleges in the state from 2014. The exam score will accepted by around 80 recognized management institutes in Maharashtra. Candidate must have bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized College/ University with at least 45% marks (40% for reserved category). Exam Dates MBA MH-CET 2014 Dates:- MBA MH-CET exam is held once in a year in the month of February/ March. Mostly Feb 22nd 2014 or March 8th 2014. Speed in answering questions is most important. Practice daily by preparing a proper study timetable. Go thoroughly through the pattern paper and collect the study material for the same. Candidate applying for this exam have to attempt 200 questions for which they are allotted 150 minutes. The topics covering in this exam are: • Reading comprehension 15 questions • Verbal ability 35 questions • Quantitative analysis 20 questions • Data interpretation 25 questions • Data sufficiency 5 questions • Verbal reasoning 20 questions • Non verbal reasoning 25 questions • Analytical reasoning 50 questions Each question carries 1 mark and no negative marking for incorrect answer. CET 2014 the new ball game…. What is difference between MBA Mh CET & CMAT 1. Negative marking Biggest change and surprising factor for students preparing for CMAT is the negative marking. Now scoring good marks for colleges esp. like Jamnalal Bajaj will be little bit more balancing as one have to not only attempt more but also balance the accuracy. But CET 2014 on the other hand is guilt free pass to attempt as many as u can.. as it wwill not have any negative marking. 2. GK CMAT: General Knowledge is most undervalued subject in MBA entrance. Most of the students spend 60% time on Quant while totally ignoring GK. This time GK is more important than any other topic including Quant, RC, DI and Puzzles. Start preparing for GK from today before it’s too late. 3. All India level Most of the students were feeling apprehensive about CMAT being all India level. While CET 2014 will be state level exam which other students can also take. Maharashtra based students need not worry about CET or CMAT as its not going affect their chances for the Mumbai based colleges. 70% seats are reserved for Mumbai students so need not worry. 4. More Quant CET will contain only 20 marks of quant out of 200 marks paper ie only 10% of the paper. But CMAT contains 22 questions outta 100 ie 22% of the paper is going to be quant. Therefore, students have to be more wary of quant section esp for the non-engineering students in CMAT while CET is more neutral exam. 5. Less of reasoning CET 2014 contains almost 50% logical reasoning ie 100 marks of reasoning based questions outta 200 marks, which was the main advantage for Non Engineering students. But in CMAT only 25% marks is allocated for logical reasoning. 6. Visual reasoning 25 questions Biggest setback for students will be Visual & Verbal reasoning which had been a nightmare for most of the students. It was party time for Cetking students as we are expert in the area so will ensure 100% marks in that. However CMAT contains no visual reasoning. 7. Reading Comprehension RC CMAT RC is the biggest surprise as there was no RC! I mean is no traditional long RCs but short paragraph based RCs. However in CET 2014 you can expect conventional RCs 10 – 15 questions. 8. Online format Biggest difficult faced by students in CMAT is the online format. It’s quite easy to solve a test on paper but online is a different ball game. Students face problem especially in Quant and verbal section. CET 2014 will have upper hand in this regard 9. Verbal Reasoning 20 questions Verbal reasoning which had been a next nightmare for most of the students esp with courses of action, assumptions conclusions. It was second good news for Cetking students as we are expert in the area so will ensure good accuracy in the area. However CMAT contains no verbal reasoning 10. Colleges accepting CMAT score CMAT is still far away from being only management entrance exam. But still there is lots of confusion which B-schools will be taking CMAT scores. Example SPJain should be taking CAT and CMAT scores this year however it’s not clear yet. Only state level B-schools has confirmed their commitment towards the CMAT exam. CET on the other hand will still remain focus on Maharashtra based colleges.
